OREANDA-NEWS. Australia has decided to stop the production of a coronavirus vaccine developed by the University of Queensland and the biotechnology company CSL. This was reported by the developers of the medication.

It was explained that in the first phase of testing the drug, in which 216 people took part, it was found that, despite the absence of serious side effects, antibodies developed after vaccination interfere with the diagnosis of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and lead to false positive results of some HIV tests. Taking in account these results, CSL and the Australian government agreed to discontinue second and third phases of vaccine trials.

“This outcome highlights the risk of failure associated with early vaccine development,” Andrew Nash, CSL chief scientific officer, said. According to him, the Australian vaccine may be refined, but this may take up to 12 months.
