OREANDA-NEWS. April 13, 2009. The bilateral Turkmen-Armenian inter-MFA consultations were held in Ashgabat. The heads of the foreign ministries of Turkmenistan and the Republic of Armenia R. Meredov and E. Nalbandian, who had arrived in the Turkmen capital to take part in the meeting of the Council of CIS Foreign Ministers, exchanged views on a wide range of the issues of intergovernmental cooperation.

During the talks the sides harmonized the concrete steps to further fruitful partnership in such priority fields as fuel and energy industry, transport and communications and the humanitarian sphere, in particular education and science. The sides emphasized that the requisite to intensify the trade and economic relations existed and called for establishing cooperation in the investment sector. In this context the sides highly appreciated the role of the intergovernmental Turkmen-Armenian commission for economic cooperation in designing the effective approaches to intensifying mutually advantageous contacts.

The head of the foreign ministry of Armenia focused on the exceptional effectiveness of the meeting with President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov that had turned into the sincere exchange of views on the important aspects and further development of Turkmen-Armenian cooperation.

Upon concluding the talks the Protocol on Cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia was signed.
