OREANDA-NEWS. September 29, 2009. Foreign Minister of Belarus Sergei Martynov came out with a proposal to hold the UN General Assembly special debates on developing the interfaith dialogue. The proposal was made at the 64th session of the UN General Assembly.

During the ministerial meeting on interfaith dialogue and cooperation for peace, Sergei Martynov called for strengthening the international efforts to develop the interfaith dialogue and came up with a proposal to hold special debates at the UN General Assembly with the participation of the world leaders and representatives of various faiths. The Belarusian initiative was actively supported.

Sergei Martynov also appealed for the UN to adopt a global action plan to fight the human trafficking. During the ministerial meeting organized by Brazil, the Netherlands and the USA, and dedicated to the violence against girls, Sergei Martynov stressed that the problem is closely connected to the trafficking in children, especially, in girls and should be solved comprehensively.

The head of the Belarusian delegation took part in the working meeting of the foreign ministers of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) participating states. The sides exchanged their views on the ways of further improvement of the activity of the UN and other international organizations.

Apart from that, Sergei Martynov held bilateral meetings with the foreign ministers of Australia, Austria, Iran, Kazakhstan, Namibia and the Philippines. The sides discussed various issues of bilateral and all-round cooperation.
