OREANDA-NEWS. October 21, 2009. In particular, Mr Medvedev assessed attempts to revise the history of World War II and reinterpret it in order to achieve selfish political goals. Dmitry Medvedev emphasized that lessons from the past warn us against repeating mistakes and advise us to work together in the face of current major threats.

The President of Russia drew attention to international security issues and pointed out that a new European Security Treaty could provide equal and reliable guarantees for all countries and set clear rules for the prevention and peaceful settlement of conflicts.

Dmitry Medvedev touched on the Kosovo settlement and stressed that Russia will continue to provide Serbia with all necessary assistance as it defends its national interests.

Mr Medvedev praised Russian-Serbian relations in various spheres, including energy sector. He said that the development of these relations will benefit not only Russia and Serbia and the Balkans, but all of Europe.

Following his visit to the Serbian National Assembly, the President of Russia visited the Holy Synod and attended a ceremony where he was awarded the Order of Saint Savva first degree, the highest award given by the Serbian Orthodox Church.
