OREANDA-NEWS. September 06, 2010. An Afghan delegation led by Mohammad Sharif Sharifi, Deputy Minister of Commerce and Industries of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan is on a visit to the Turkmen capital in these days.

During the visit to Ashgabat the delegation held the meetings at the Ministry and Gas Industry and Mineral Resources and the Ministry of Trade and Foreign Economic Relations to discuss the approaches to further enhancing traditional Turkmen-Afghan relations built historically on the principles of good neighbourliness and mutual assistance.

In this context the Afghan delegation expressed sincere gratitude to the leader of the Turkmen state Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and the Turkmen people for brotherly humanitarian aid provided recently and continued support and assistance in the social and economic revival of the country.

The meetings at the ministries spotlighted keen interest in intensifying constructive Turkmen-Afghan cooperation in a wide range of fields including trade, economic and fuel and energy sectors. In particular, the guests underscored the importance of construction of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) transcontinental gas pipeline that would contribute profoundly to maintaining and strengthening political and socioeconomic stability throughout the region as well as serve as a peace-building factor for Afghanistan.
