OREANDA-NEWS. August 29, 2011. In a telephone conversation, Dmitry Medvedev congratulated newly elected President of Abkhazia Alexander Ankvab on a resounding victory in the presidential election.

Dmitry Medvedev wished Alexander Ankvab every success in his demanding post and expressed confidence that Abkhazia's development will continue progressing.

The two leaders confirmed their commitment to further strengthening Russian-Abkhazian relations.

Message of congratulations to Alexander Ankvab on being elected President of Abkhazia.

The message reads, in part:

“The trust placed in you by your compatriots testifies to the Abkhazian people’s support of the policy to build an independent, democratic, modern state capable of ensuring a peaceful and prosperous life for its citizens.

I am confident that under your leadership Abkhazia will continue the policy of improving state and civil society institutions to promote sustainable socioeconomic development and strengthen your nation’s positions in the international arena. In all these areas, Abkhazia can count on the continued full support of the Russian Federation.

Bilateral relations between our countries, which are based on strong traditions of friendship and brotherhood, have great potential, and we are ready to further develop this partnership.”
