OREANDA-NEWS. Former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was appointed a Chancellor of Queen’s University Belfast located in the capital of Northern Ireland. Thus, American politician became the first female chancellor of the University in its 175 year history.

“It’s a great privilege to become the Chancellor of Queen’s University, a place I have great fondness for and have grown a strong relationship with over the years.  The University is making waves internationally for its research and impact and I am proud to be an ambassador and help grow its reputation for excellence,” Clinton said, her words are cited in a statement of the University.

Media mention that the functions assigned to her are mosty ceremonial.

They also remind that Hillary’s spouse, Bill Clinton, being a President of the USA, played an important role in concluding a peace agreement in 1998, which put an end to the long bloodshed and granted the government of Northern Ireland autonomy from London.
