OREANDA-NEWS. A check is being conducted into the hospitalization of the opposition politician Aleksey Navalny, but a criminal case cannot be opened without the necessary materials. This was stated by Russian President Vladimir Putin at a meeting with members of the Human Rights Council.

“Now, regarding these high-profile cases, about the poisoning of a well-known person. […] The Prosecutor’s Office of the Russian Federation has repeatedly asked its colleagues to send at least a written official opinion on the results of their research,” Putin said.

One of the members of the Council, Nikolay Svanidze, asked the President if it was possible to open a criminal case on what happened with Navalny in Russia.

“No, we can’t. Because if a person almost died, this does not mean that you need to open a criminal case on any occasion,” Putin explained.

At the same time, the head of state recalled that the Prosecutor’s Office and the Investigative Committee of Russia are now checking this situation.
