OREANDA-NEWS Finnish Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto expects that the situation around the detention of Russian cultural values by Finnish customs authorities will be resolved. He said that the art objects should be returned to Russia

«The sanctions were adopted so quickly that, apparently, not all situations were taken into account», said Pekka Haavisto. The polotician hopes that the issue of returning the exhibits to Russia will be «successfully resolved».

«Finland has no reason to keep any museum exhibits or keep them in storage. They should be treated with great reverence. They need to be stored at a certain humidity and temperature», stressed Haavisto. The Finnish Foreign Minister said that all Russian exhibits «should be returned to the museums to which they belong».

He told this in Brussels, where the meeting of the foreign ministers of the NATO member countries took place. Earlier, Finnish customs confirmed the detention on April 2-4 of cargo with goods for the Russian Federation subject to European sanctions, including art objects that arrived from Japan and Italy.
