OREANDA-NEWS. September 23, 2009. In January to August, 2009, the process of decline in power generation of Azerbaijan started in 2008 (-2% for a year) continued, despite the country’s active export and net exporter status.

The Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee (SSC) informs that in January to August, 2009, with generation of 12.201 bn kWh of power the decline fell to 10.4%, as compared to Jan-August, 2008.

In August, electricity generation made up 1.228 mln kWh versus 1,346.5 mln kWh in July, 1,209.8 mln kWh in June, 1,293.9 mln kWh in May,  1,570 mln kWh in April, 1,771.5 mln kWh in March, 1,727.9 mln kWh of power in February and 2.054 bn kWh in January, 2009.

“Simultaneously generation at hydroelectric power stations (1,341.1 million kWh) dropped by 26.6%, and at heating power stations (10,860.4 mln kWh) increased by 7.8% in January to August,” it was informed.

In August, 182.5 million kWh was generated at hydroelectric stations versus 163.8 million kWh in July, 95.3 million kWh in June, 207.6 million kWh in May, 137 mln kWh in April, 171.1 million kWh in March, 163.5 million kWh in February and 109.8 million in January 2009 and at thermal stations 1,045.4 mln kWh versus 1,172.7 mln kWh in July, 1,014.5 mln kWh in June, 1,086.3 mln kWh in May, 1,433 mln kWh in April, 1,600.3 mln  kWh in March, 1,564 mln kWh and 1,944.2 mln kWh correspondingly.

At the same time 14.86% of overall generation fell on the share of hydroelectric stations versus 10.6% in July, 10.2% in June and 10.6% in 2008 and 85.14% on the share of thermal stations versus 89.4%, 89.2% and 89.4% in 2008.

Over 2003-2008, the country generated 112.4 billion kWh of electricity with average generation of 22.48 bn kWh a year.

In 2008, Azerbaijan exported 808.8 million kWh of power and imported 266.5 million kWh becoming for the first time a net power exporter. In January to August, 2009, the country kept its status of net exporter.
