OREANDA-NEWS. February 04, 2010. RZDstroy and Alpine Bau GmbH set up the joint venture Alpine-RZDstroy, with the participation of RZD President Vladimir Yakunin and Alpine Holding part owner and supervisory board chairman Dietmar Aluta-Oltyan. The joint venture’s role will be to draw up proposals for and implement special infrastructure projects on the territories of the Russian Federation, Austria, and other countries, reported the press-centre of RZD.

The first projects in which the JV will be involved will be the construction of the Alptransit Brenner Baulos A1 – Grundausrьstung tunnel in the State of Tyrol and the construction of two tunnels in Sochi, as part of infrastructure for the 2014 Winter Olympics. Corresponding memorandums on participation in these projects were signed today in Vienna. RZD President Vladimir Yakunin said: "For us, cooperation with the Alpine company opens up new opportunities to manage construction projects, and use cutting-edge technology. Such experience will be needed to see through our infrastructure projects, first and foremost in preparing Sochi for the 2014 Olympics. Partnership with the Alpine company will allow us to enter the markets for infrastructure projects in Europe and in third countries."

The Alpine-RZDstroy joint venture is a limited liability company registered in Austria. A representative office will be opened in Russia. The joint venture’s authorized capital is 200,000 euros. The venture will be run on a parity basis. Alexei Konovalov (RZDstroy) and Andreas Schцkel (Alpine) will be appointed directors. The supervisory board members are Russian Railways Vice President Oleg Toni and Yevgeny Dorot of RZDstroy, and from the Alpine company, Christian Trattner and Roman Esterbauer

RZDstroy is a subsidiary of RZD. Its core activity is planning and executing railway projects on Russia’s territory. The company is engaged in the construction of over-ground structures, so the activities of the joint venture will be limited to only rail projects. RZDstroy’s turnover in 2008 was around 2 billion euros, and the company employs around 11,000 staff.

Alpine Bau GmbH’s turnover in 2008 was around 3.5 billion euros, and the company employs about 15,530 people. Alpine Bau GmbH is Austria’s second largest construction company, and is successfully conducting projects of various sizes in 26 countries around the world. The company works on over-ground construction, road and railway construction, bridge building, underground construction, special projects at large depths, and also the construction of electric power stations in Austria and other countries.
