OREANDA-NEWS. April 30, 2010. Russia in 2010 starts payment of voluntary financial contributions into Fund of physical nuclear safety of International Atomic Energy Agency. "Our country made fundamental decision on appropriation since 2010 of voluntary financial contribution into Fund of physical nuclear safety of International Atomic Energy Agency", - reported presidential aide of RF Sergey Prihodko. Under information of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, appropriation of USD 1.5 mln in 2010 and USD 1 mln. annually in 2011-2015 is provided.

As it was stated by S.Prihodko, physical nuclear safety in Russia is maintained at the proper level: all nuclear materials and respective installations in the Russian territory are provided with reliable protection. Russia to the full extent performs its international liabilities in the area of physical nuclear safety. We acknowledge that responsibility for provision thereof inside the state is completely born by the state, said he. He also reminded of the Russian initiative on establishment jointly with Kazakhstan of International uranium enrichment center in Angarsk, in which now also Armenia and Ukraine participate.

Moreover, as representative of Kremlin noted, on 29 March the RF and International Atomic Energy Agency signed agreement on establishment of security stock of low-enriched uranium in the territory of Russia. The document should provide reliability of nuclear fuel supplies to states - members of International Atomic Energy Agency which are unable to purchase fuel for their NPPs at the world market due to non-commercial reasons. Russia participates in number of international conventions in the area of physical nuclear safety. It initiated approval in 2005 of International convention on counteraction to nuclear terrorism acts and was one of the first to ratify it in October of 2006. the convention took effect in 2007. "The Russian party expects joining the Convention by the states which yet did not do it in the nearest future", - said S.Prihodko.

In 2006 Russia and USA also suggested Global initiative on counteraction to nuclear terrorism acts. 76 states are now participants of the initiative, as well as 4 international supervising organizations.
