Vladimir Putin Visits Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute
OREANDA-NEWS. June 17, 2010. At a meeting with employees of the Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute (TSAGI) in Zhukovsky, the prime minister reported that from January to May of 2010 industrial production had grown by 10.3% as compared to the same period in 2009, and that unemployment had fallen by 14.4%, or almost one million people. “We have started to come out of the downturn,” Vladimir Putin said.
Vladimir Putin visited a laboratory where the trans-sonic T-128 wind tunnel for testing models of aircraft and rockets is installed.
The chief of the laboratory, Anton Gorbushin, said there were just 11 such wind tunnels in the world and that only two of them had larger dimensions than the Russian wind tunnel. Experts say that the T-128 wind tunnel ensures the steadiest and least turbulent wind flows with the capability of changing the speed and the amount of the wind flow.
TsAGI General Director Boris Alyoshin showed the prime minister the Russian aircraft models being tested here, including the Sukhoi Superjet-100, Sukhoi Superjet-130 and MS-21 aluminum models. "This is the first stage in designing any aircraft. After this, we monitor the entire life cycles of the aircraft," Alyoshin said.
Vladimir Putin noted the MS-21 model and asked about the plane's passenger capacity. Boris Alyoshin replied that the aircraft could seat 180 people.
Alyoshin said that the institute was currently testing and developing advanced aircraft that will enter the market in 2020-2025. He also said that their emission and noise levels would be half of those of current aircraft. Moreover, the new aircraft will have entirely different wing and fuselage design.
TsAGI is the world's largest aeronautical science centre conducting comprehensive research in the sphere of aviation, rocket and space technology. The institute has unique experimental facilities which meet the highest international standards. TsAGI conducts expert tests of all Russian aircraft and issues final documents regarding the safety of their first flights.
