For the fifth year running, SCF Group has become a finalist of the annual Platts Global Energy Awards, developed by the leading American provider of information on the energy and metals markets. In 2010, Sovcomflot has been nominated in the category of “Downstream Operations of the Year”.

Once again, Sovcomflot is the only Russian company in the finals of these prestigious international awards.

The finalists in 17 different categories were chosen from more than 200 contestants representing 21 countries. The judging panel for the award, which is charged with selecting the best of the best, is composed of representatives from national regulatory authorities, the former heads of major energy companies, leading academics and international energy experts.

In selecting the finalists, the judges considered the financial results of candidate companies over time.

SCF Group is one of Russia’s largest infrastructure companies. Its fleet comprises 148 vessels (more than 10.7 million tonnes dwt in total). Its current shipbuilding programme includes eleven vessels (0.85 million tonnes dwt in total):
• The average age of tanker in the fleet is approximately 6.5 years (with the world average age being 12 years).
• The company has the largest fleet for operating in ice conditions, being the No.1 operator of Arctic shuttle tankers, as well as ice-class LNG carriers.
• SCF Group is the second largest operator (by deadweight) in the product tanker and Aframax tanker segments, holding fourth place in the Suezmax tanker segment.
• The company has been a Lloyd’s List Global Awards finalist four times: twice, in 2007 and in 2008, reaching the finals in the category “Ship of the Year” and in 2005 was winner in the nomination ‘Newsmaker of the Year’; in September 2010 SCF Group became winner in the category “Company of the Year”.
• In 2007 the Group won the title “Energy Transporter of the Year” of the annual Platts Global Energy Awards.
• This year, the company was also a winner at the annual Seatrade Awards, having been awarded “Global Performer 2010” for its “contribution to the regular transportation of cargo by ice-class tankers in the harsh climatic conditions of the Arctic”.
