OREANDA-NEWS. March 17, 2011. In response to the March 11 Earthquake, Tokyo Electron Limited (TEL) established the Earthquake Emergency Response Headquarters, led by president and CEO, Hiroshi Takenaka. The status as of March 17 is as follows.

The company has confirmed that all 1,141 employees in the affected area are safe, and is continuing to take appropriate measures to ensure that all employees’ family members and company sub-contractors are safe. The company is also arranging company apartments for employees whose homes have been affected.

There are three facilities around the affected area, Tokyo Electron Tohoku, for thermal processing systems (Oshu City), Tokyo Electron AT, for etch systems (Matsushima City) and Tokyo Electron Technology Development Institute (Sendai City). None of these facilities were damaged by fires or the tsunami, and there was no significant external damage to the factory or warehouse structures.

At Tokyo Electron Tohoku, minimal damage has been reported, and operations are expected to resume in two weeks, dependent on suppliers’ production schedules. At Tokyo Electron Technology Development Institute, operations are expected to resume in one week, once the water supply is restored. At Tokyo Electron AT, operations are expected to resume in two to four weeks. All of these dates are dependent upon infrastructure and supplier status. In the meantime, TEL has decided to expand production areas for etch systems in the unaffected Yamanashi factory.

Tokyo Electron has over 600 suppliers, and we are continuously assessing their status and will keep our customers abreast of the supply chain information as it becomes available.

We are also in continuous communication with our customers regarding equipment production, shipment schedules, parts supply status, service and maintenance.

Based on the current status of damage, we expect minimal impact this fiscal year. We will continue to disclose further information as it becomes available.
