OREANDA-NEWS. March 25, 2011. Recently the latest list of the world's top 20 steelmakers was unveiled, in which 9 Chinese steelmakers were included. ArcelorMittal remained the largest steelmaker in the world, followed by Chinese steelmakers Hebei Iron and Steel Group and Baosteel Group who steadily took the second and third places respectively, reported the press-centre of Baosteel.

In 2010, global crude steel output reached 1.414 billion mt, up 15 percent year on year and created a historical high. The capacity utilization rates of major steelmakers recovered with double-digit increase, but their output levels were still lower than the levels recorded before the start of the financial crisis.

According to the data, German ThyssenKrupp registered the largest growth of crude steel output year on year, which was close to 52%, and its ranking jumped from 23rd last year to 19th this year; US Steel registered a growth of 46%, and jumped from 16th last year to 13th this year; Japanese Nippon Steel Corp., JFE and US Nucor all registered more than 30% growth of crude steel output.

The Chinese steelmakers entering the first 10 places also include Anshan-Benxi Iron and Steel Group, Wuhan Iron and Steel Group, Shagang Group and Shougang Group, who were ranked 4th, 5th, 9th and 10th respectively; South Korea's POSCO and Japanese steelmakers Nippon Steel Corp. and JFE were respectively ranked 6th, 7th and 8th.
