OREANDA-NEWS. June 7, 2011. Transaero Airlines completed its first flight with Boeing 747 to Federico Fellini International Airport in Rimini (IATA: RMI, ICAO: LIPR), Italy, making it the first airline in the world to operate this aircraft type to the airport. The first flight was another benchmark in Transaero history. The flight with around 500 passengers on board was met by senior airport managers and numerous airport staff as well as media representatives.

Airport authorities commented on the scope of works required at the airport to get ready for operating such long-haul wide-body aircraft like the Boeing 747. In particular, taxi ways were widened, new equipment was acquired and installed and a new parking area for Boeing 747 aircraft was prepared. This flight demonstrates clearly that Transaero's operations with spacious Boeing aircraft contribute to the development of aviation infrastructure not only in Russian regions but also in foreign countries.

Transaero made a decision to operate Boeing 747 aircraft on the popular Moscow-Rimini route due to constantly growing passenger demand.
