OREANDA-NEWS. Delta Air Lines (NYSE: DAL) announced the establishment of its first Latin American Delta Technical Operations Line Maintenance Division (TechOps) at Sao Paulo's Guarulhos International Airport in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The operation deployment will involve 26 new employees including technicians, supervisors, material services and one manager.

“We are committed to continue growing in the Brazilian market and across Latin America. Earlier this year, we relocated our commercial headquarters from Atlanta to Sao Paulo. The establishment of technical operations in Sao Paulo is a logical next step in our commitment to become the best U.S. carrier in Latin America,” said Nicolas Ferri, Delta's vice president-Latin America and Caribbean.

Delta has a presence of line maintenance at more than 50 airports across Delta's global system to provide Delta's fleet with technical support and reinforce a safe and on-time operation for customers.

“The full-time staff will complete routine scheduled maintenance as well as cabin interior work,” said Lee Gossett, vice president-Line Maintenance. “This strategic move will allow the new team at Guarulhos International Airport to provide immediate capture of maintenance ground time in a critical market for Delta.”

Delta currently operates 35 non-stop weekly flights between Brazil and the U.S. including Atlanta, Detroit, New York- JFK to Sao Paulo, as well as from Atlanta to Rio de Janeiro and Brasilia. The airline was tentatively awarded permission by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) to increase its service to Brazil with an additional daily non-stop flight between Atlanta and Sao Paulo, and also an additional non-stop daily flight between Detroit and Sao Paulo which becomes available October 1, 2014.

Through its partnership with GOL Linhas Aereas Inteligentes, Delta offers access to its customers to more than 380 destinations in more than 65 countries, meeting 99 percent of Brazilian and U.S. customer demand between the countries.
