OREANDA-NEWS. Tata Power, India’s largest integrated power utility, has continuously endeavoured to improve the quality of life of communities around its areas of operations. In another such initiative, Maithon Power, a joint venture company of Tata Power and Damodar Valley Corporation, organised a series of programmes to spread awareness on various health related issues in 15 different villages.

The health awareness programmes were aimed at providing general and health related awareness among local villagers on issues such as fire safety in domestics usages, safe habits for pregnant women, awareness on food habits during pregnancy, safe sexual habits, birth control, safe sanitation practices, need and adequacy for girl child’s health and education, precautions, symptoms and cures on seasonal diseases, consequences of alcohol addiction, family planning, and hygienic practices for staying healthy and fit in life.

Speaking on the occasion, Bhaskar Sarkar, CEO, Maithon Power, said, ‘We at Tata Power always strive towards uplifting the standards of health, hygiene and nutrition amongst the people of our community. Through programmes like these, we reinforce our assurance of continuous support to the local villagers in sculpting a better and healthy way of living.’

The awareness generation programmes included numerous ways by which the message of health awareness was spread to the villages. Some villages witnessednukar nataks on safe and hygienic practices for women and children, female foeticide, and alcohol addiction. Audio-visual movies were shown on fire safety in domestic usages, prenatal care, safe sexual habits, and good sanitation practices. In some villages, special meetings with villagers on precautions, symptoms and cures of seasonal diseases, malaria, AIDS, swine flu, etc were conducted. Whereas in some villages, various wall paintings on hygienic practices, seasonal diseases, malaria, AIDS, swine flu, education health and care of girl child were displayed.

Speaking on the initiative, Sabyasachi Mukherjee, station head, Maithon Power, added, ‘We are delighted by the response we received for these initiatives. The objective of this programme is to provide basic awareness on health and the hygienic way of living life. By means of these measures, we aim to establish a process for good health redressal system for the local area/villages.’
