OREANDA-NEWS. September 25, 2013. ICBC today announced a new value-added service for cardholders to get free WiFi internet access in Hong Kong.

Customers will be given a seven-day free WiFi access, once using ICBC credit card issued in Mainland China for a single UnionPay-based consumption equivalent to RMB 2,000 or above in Hong Kong.

Cardholders will receive a SMS from ICBC with login A/C No. and password to use the free WiFi in Hong Kong. The new value-added service is now available at almost 4,000 WiFi hotspots in Hong Kong, covering various convenience stores and restaurants including 7-eleven and Haagen-Dazs, hundreds of shopping centers such as Harbor City, Causeway Bay Plaza, Elements, and APM, as well as over a thousand traffic stations and telephone booths at MTR and harbor fronts. While shopping or sightseeing in Hong Kong, customers can easily find access to hotspots and check for travel information, contact friends and families, or handle work-related matters.

Overseas travel has boomed in recent years, especially to Hong Kong and Macau. Given the high cost and low speed of cross-border mobile internet service, and with a view to facilitating customers travelling in Hong Kong, ICBC has innovated on credit card service by providing efficient, convenient and free WiFi access to card users.

According to an ICBC executive, ICBC has continued to enrich value-added services to meet diversified needs of credit card holders and improve service quality over the past few years, integrating services such as multi-currency, cross-channel and wide-spectrum application, merchant discount, points for gifts, cross-border online shopping and free healthcare consultancy hotline.
