OREANDA-NEWS. April 01, 2014. The Inter-ministerial Committee for Strategic Planning approved accessing a sovereign loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) to carry out an investment programme on modernising CET Nord power plant from Balti. Economics Minister Valeriu Lazar presented a proposal to this effect.

The Economics Ministry noted that the CET Nord programme would be implemented under a feasibility study. The latter was worked out by the AF Industry Company and the Tehno Consulting & Design Moldova, with the support of EBRD and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency. The programme will be followed by other projects both in Balti and in other Moldovan cities, where there are centralised heating systems.

The overall investments amounted to 9.7 million euros. At the preliminary stage, the investments are to be financed under an EBRD loan estimated at 6.2 million euros and a 3.5-million-euros grant from the Eastern European Energy Efficiency and Environmental Partnership.

As a result of the programme’s implementation, the heating supply services quality will be improve. Also, the CO2 emissions will be significantly cut, hot water supply services will be resumed in Balti, including in the warm season, as well as savings on energy costs will be got.
