OREANDA-NEWS. October 21, 2014. Wine imports from Moldova to Romania doubled and plum deliveries increased about four times, according to an analysis by the Romanian National Sanitary Veterinary and Food Safety Authority (ANSVSA).

Wine imports from Moldova to Romania increased 1.9 times this year, and deliveries of apple pulp and sunflower seeds grew three and 5.5 times respectively. Significant increases in imports were also registered in other products such as molasses, honey, plum paste, apple juice. Grape exports increased tenfold.

The National Sanitary Veterinary and Food Safety Authority announced it planned to initiate new projects for Moldova. ANSVSA President Vladimir Manastireanu paid a visit to the Cahul district on 8 October, where he tackled the situation of farmers in the area, this year’s fruit production and ways to overcome the embargo imposed by Russia.

Agriculture and Food Minister Vasile Bumacov said the agricultural producers demanded the bank security amounting to 7,000 euro for one truck of apples exported to Romania, which no longer existed. This provision was cancelled with the entry into force of the Free Trade Agreement and now there is no obstacle to export agricultural products. "The fact that more than 730 tons of apples, 190 tons of plums and 987 tons of grapes were exported over the Prut River so far is proof of this fact", said Bumacov.

Exports from Moldova to the Romanian market grew by 4.3 per cent in the first seven months of 2014, according to the National Bureau of Statistics.
