OREANDA-NEWS. Tele2, an alternative mobile operator, and the Republic of Karelia's government have signed an agreement on cooperation in developing telecommunications sector.

The agreement is targeted at cooperation between Tele2 and the Republic of Karelia's government that are both seeking to develop telecommunications infrastructure in the region. The investment project implies construction of new base stations, upgrading facilities of the current network infrastructure, preparations for the launch of 3G mobile Internet in the region and joint implementation of socially oriented projects.

Special att7ention will be paid to increasing affordability of the operator's services in distant residential areas of the republic as well as along its federal highway. As a part of the agreement Tele2 is planning to support the governmental initiatives in social and ecological sphere.

Mikhail Noskov, CEO at Tele2:

"Agreement with the Republic of Karelia's government will contribute to considerable expansion of coverage and improvement of network quality in the region. This will help enhance the republic's investment attractiveness and strengthen its economic potential. Tele2 network is now covering over 90% of the republic's territory where 95% of its residents live. I am sure that implementation of measures indicated in the agreement will not only let us satisfy the population's fast growing need for high-quality and affordable services but also have a positive effect on overall living standards in the region."
