OREANDA-NEWS. GE Oil & Gas (NYSE: GE) in Mozambique has enrolled 20 Mozambican graduate engineers in the company's Graduate Engineering Training Program (GETP).

GETP is GE's "best in class" development program designed to prepare engineers to join GE's global field service engineering team after successful completion of an intense 24-month curriculum. The 20 trainees were selected after a rigorous screening process; all of them hold degrees in mechanical, electrical and electronic engineering.

The engineers have commenced the first phase of their training at the Mozal Training Center in Maputo, where they are receiving an intense, in-class/laboratory-based instruction on engineering fundamentals. They will complete a second phase of their training at the PMI Technical Training Engineering Campus in Welkom, South Africa. Upon successful completion, the trainees will enter a 12-month, on-the-job training program to gain hands-on experience with GE O&G subsea and liquefied natural gas products.

They will be deployed to GE Oil & Gas project sites around the world, including postings in the U.K., Brazil, Angola and Nigeria. Graduates of the program will go on to join GE's world-class cadre of field service engineers.

Marco Caccavale, president and CEO of GE Mozambique, and Mr. Ricardo Aboud, East Africa leader for GE Oil & Gas, were on hand to meet and welcome the trainees for their first day of training. According to Caccavale, the 20 trainees represent an investment in the future of Mozambique and a key enabler to support Mozambicans entering the oil and gas workforce. Mr. Aboud reiterated GE's localization commitment to Mozambique. He made clear that GE's plans include portfolio investments around the establishment of operational facilities, supplier development programs as well as partnering with communities to deliver social support programs.
