UIMC will create a communications system for Arctic military units
OREANDA-NEWS. United Instrument Manufacturing Corporation  is working on a new generation of communication systems for Russian troops in the Arctic.

Recently, the existing means of communication, namely VHF and shortwave bands, were tested in the Arctic during a quick march of army equipment. They showed adequate results, but the operation in the Far North has its own peculiarities and presents a number of new technical requirements regarding software reliability and, most importantly, quality of communication.

United Instrument Manufacturing Corporation is working on a universal set of sixth-generation communication systems that will be able to work reliably in the Far North. They should be adopted into service by the Arctic units. Deployment of communications infrastructure in the Arctic is due to start soon. These systems will provide stable connections during jamming and other means of electronic warfare. In addition, they will ensure secret communication and maintain stability even during the loss of individual relay nodes, which is to say that, in case of a failure, the connection will automatically recover without human intervention.

The sixth-generation communications system will include, for example, the Azart radio station, which has already been in use by the military for several years. It facilitates data rates up to 7.2 kilobits/s, can use GLONASS/GPS to determine coordinates with an accuracy of 25 meters in latitude and longitude and 40 meters in height, and can continuously operate with one battery for 6-12 hours.

In addition to the communication systems for the Arctic, another major project of UIMC is the creation of sixth-generation Army communications and a modern avionics communications system for aircraft, particularly for the T-50 fighter. The creation of modern radar systems for reconnaissance and multi-purpose monitoring, including radar systems for A-50U and A-100 aircraft, is also underway. The development and implementation of new technologies for production and communication systems, telecommunications equipment, and computer technology are also priorities. One of UIMC’s most important projects is the mass production of new-generation high-density electronics, namely compact 3D-microsystems.

United Instrument Manufacturing Corporation (UIMC) is a Russian government-controlled corporation established in 2014 as a Rostec Corporation subsidiary to organize high-tech manufacturing of competitive communication systems and devices, automated control systems, electronic warfare systems, and robotic systems for the Russian military and other special forces, as well as competitive products for civilian and dual use. UIMC united 55 enterprises and research institutions in Russia’s electronics industry in Russia.
