OREANDA-NEWS. Beatrice Offshore Windfarm Ltd (BOWL) is proud to support the Scottish Fishing for Litter initiative, a project designed to remove rubbish from the sea through the operations of local fishermen whilst raising awareness of the significant detrimental impact such waste can have on the marine environment.

212 boats and 14 harbours participate in the Scottish scheme which has helped to remove over 800 tonnes of litter from our seas since the project's inception in 2005; the equivalent of more than 47 million empty drinks cans. This project is co-ordinated by KIMO, an international association of Local authorities, which campaign on marine pollution issues that affect coastal communities.

Steve Wilson, BOWL Project Manager said:

"As a responsible developer, we are delighted to support the Fishing for Litter initiative which helps to remove harmful litter from our seas and create a more sustainable environment for marine animals and wider users.”

The Beatrice project is situated in the Outer Moray Firth and is a joint venture owned by SSE (50%), Repsol Nuevas Energias (25%) and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (25%). The Beatrice project, which was consented by Marine Scotland in March 2014, and granted an Investment Contract by the UK government in May 2014, is planned for construction in 2016 subject to a positive final investment decision.   If constructed, as well as generating up to 664MW of renewable electricity, the project is expected to bring a range of socioeconomic benefits to both the Moray and Highland regions.
