OREANDA-NEWS In October 2023, Russia sent to Brazil a shipment of oil with a volume of slightly more than 207 thousand tons for a total amount of about $ 133 million. This indicator has become a record since at least 1997, RIA Novosti reports, citing data from analysts at the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (O Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatistica, IBGE).

The shipment turned out to be a record both in volume and in value for the entire time of trade relations between the two countries. Before that, the highest figure was recorded in May 2002, when the Latin American country purchased a total of 139.8 thousand tons of oil (1 million barrels) from Russia. As for the cost, the previous maximum was recorded in June 2010 and amounted to 86.2 million dollars.

Brazil resumed importing Russian oil in September after a two-year break. In October, the indicator increased 2.5 times to 207.4 thousand tons, or about 1.5 million barrels. The total cost of importing raw materials also increased sharply — by 2.8 times, to $ 133.25 million. A sharp increase in oil exports allowed Russia to enter the top three suppliers of raw materials for Brazil. In terms of the cost of supplies, only the USA ($346 million) and Guyana ($187 million) were ahead. Algeria ($112 million) and Saudi Arabia ($98 million) also entered the top 5.

Earlier, Reuters, citing industry sources, reported on Russia's reduction of the November plan for oil exports from western ports, including Novorossiysk, Primorsk and Ust-Luga. At the end of autumn, it was decided to reduce the volume of supplies from 2.3 to 2 million barrels per day. The reduction by 0.3 million per day was largely due to the plans of Russian companies to increase the load of local refineries (refineries).
