OREANDA-NEWS  The Chinese authorities have decided to impose additional duties of 34% on goods from the United States, The Global Times reported on Friday, citing the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China.

The ministry pointed out that these are "retaliatory duties" on measures previously announced by Washington.

These measures will come into force on April 10, according to Chinese media.

In addition, the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China announced that it will introduce export control measures for seven types of rare earth metals that are used in the creation of high-tech products, such as computer chips. In particular, we are talking about gadolinium and yttrium.

At the same time, Beijing announced that it had filed a lawsuit under the dispute settlement mechanism of the World Trade Organization (WTO) due to the US duties.

US President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday the introduction of "reciprocal" duties against US foreign trading partners (185 countries were included in the list). The minimum base level of duties will be 10%, but for a number of countries, duties are calculated individually depending on the trade deficit of the United States with these countries. For example, duties will amount to 34% for China, 20% for the EU, and 24% for Japan.
