OREANDA-NEWS The lifting of some part of US sanctions against Russia may be a concrete result of the meeting of the leaders of the Russian Federation and the United States, Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump in Alaska, this opinion was expressed in a comment for RIA Novosti by Ambassador Gyorgy Varga, Doctor of International Relations theory, former head of the OSCE observer mission in Russia, member of the public Council of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.

"I think both President Trump and President Putin are interested in the success of this meeting. Therefore, we can expect concrete results. Sanctions are President Trump's favorite toys. Since August 1 alone, he has imposed sanctions on 90 countries. I do not rule out that the lifting of some part of the US sanctions may be a concrete result of the meeting and an indicator of the goodwill of the American side in creating the necessary conditions to restore trust between the two superpowers," the agency's interlocutor said.

In his opinion, both countries need each other's support. "Today's world has become very complex, with global challenges. No country can say that it can solve all issues of strategic importance on its own, without the support and participation of others," Varga concluded.
