OREANDA-NEWS In Hong Kong, the death toll from a fire at the Wang Fuk Court residential complex reached 83, the South China Morning Post reported, citing the Fire Department.
76 people were injured, including 11 firefighters.
Fire extinguishing continues. According to a representative of the department, only four apartments on the upper floors are on fire. Firefighters continue to spill structures to cool them down and the fire has not resumed.
About 300 people are considered missing.
In the 32-storey complex, seven of the eight towers caught fire on the afternoon of November 26. The fire started on bamboo scaffolding, which houses are surrounded by due to repairs, and quickly spread. According to investigators, the scaffolding and construction grid did not meet fire safety requirements, and the rapid spread of the fire was facilitated by the combustible material used to install windows on all floors.
