OREANDA-NEWS Poland fears a situation in which it will remain "one-on-one" with Russia, as the United States has changed its strategy towards Moscow. This was stated by a leading expert of the Russian Institute for Strategic Studies (RISS). Oleg Nemensky, RIA Novosti reports.
"Now the Polish authorities are at a loss, because the strategy of the republic is in question due to the change in the position of the United States. The buildup of Warsaw's armed forces relied on Washington as a priority ally in the region, and remaining one—on-one with Russia is unattractive," the expert said.
According to Nemensky, Poland's course towards a military clash with Russia "is already a familiar state of affairs." He noted that the main political forces in the country want Warsaw to have the largest army in Europe, so every year the authorities adopt new programs that can provide the republic with leadership in this matter.
On March 7, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said Warsaw should seek access to nuclear weapons as part of French President Emmanuel Macron's idea of a European Union (EU) nuclear umbrella. He stressed that the country should be provided with the most modern weapons.
