OREANDA-NEWS   More than 10 countries have confirmed their participation in the Peace Council proposed by US President Donald Trump, CBS News reports, citing sources.

"More than 10 countries have signed an agreement to join President Trump's Peace Council for Gaza," they said.

At the same time, CBS News clarifies that so far only five countries have publicly accepted the invitation - the UAE, Belarus, Morocco, Hungary and Canada.

The White House said that countries can contribute $1 billion to extend the period of participation from three years to permanent membership.

According to one of the channel's interlocutors, some countries will make a much smaller contribution, perhaps about $20 million.

One American official told the TV channel that raising funds for the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip would be a separate job.

Another source told CBS News that Trump wants to hold a signing ceremony for the council at the World Economic Forum in Davos on Thursday.

According to one of the channel's sources, at the moment France does not intend to give a positive response to the United States.

Meanwhile, the Financial Times writes that British Prime Minister Keir Starmer also plans to withdraw from the council.

British officials told the newspaper that Starmer is not going to join an organization that charges a substantial membership fee for a permanent place. In addition, the British Prime Minister is embarrassed by the invitation to the council of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
