OREANDA-NEWS IIn Turkey, the citizens of the city were exposed to the harmful effects of smoke from the drugs that the police had burned.
On April 18, law enforcement officers in Turkey conducted an operation to dispose of more than 20 tons of confiscated marijuana, worth a total of 10 billion Turkish liras (approximately 21 billion rubles), in the center of Lij, Diyarbakir province. During the operation, the police laid out the bags of drugs in the shape of the word LIDJ. The smoke from the burning drugs filled the air, causing harm to the residents of the city. The population of Lidzha is approximately 25,000 people.
For a period of at least five days, individuals were unable to open their windows and refrained from venturing outside, fearing the potential for poisoning and its accompanying symptoms, such as dizziness, nausea, and hallucinations. Some individuals express concern that their children have been affected by the smoke.
The area has been shrouded in a cloud of drug-related smoke for several days now. We cannot open our windows. Our children have become ill, and we are constantly seeking medical attention,» said a resident of Lidzha.
Yahya Oger, the leader of the Yeshil Yildiz Association, noted that while the authorities' efforts to combat drugs are commendable, the method of destroying marijuana was flawed. He stressed that the association of the city's name with bags of drugs has only worsened the situation.
Oger proposed that the police should dispose of cannabis in factories equipped with filters to prevent individuals from being exposed to the smoke.
