OREANDA-NEWS In 2025 and early 2026, a steady increase in cyber attacks is recorded in Russia, in which intruders act under the guise of law enforcement officers and other government agencies, experts from the Informzashita holding said. They shared the data with Lenta.ru".
According to analysts, the number of such incidents has more than doubled over the past year, and the schemes themselves have become much more complex and thoughtful. The basis of such attacks remains social engineering, enhanced by digital communication channels. Attackers actively use social networks, instant messengers and fake accounts, building long-term contact with a potential victim.
After collecting the minimum amount of personal information, another participant in the scheme enters the case, posing as an employee of the police, investigative committee or other law enforcement agencies, experts warn. Further, under the pretext of "verification", "official proceedings" or "threat prevention", a person is informed about an alleged offense or the use of his data for illegal purposes, after which they begin to exert pressure.
Experts attribute the growth of such attacks to several factors at once. One of the key ones is to increase trust in digital communication channels and the habit of solving important issues remotely. Against this background, many citizens perceive a call or a message in a messenger as an acceptable form of official communication. An additional role is played by the active dissemination of personal data in the public domain and database leaks, which allow attackers to address a person by name, know their age, place of study or work. All this enhances the credibility effect and reduces the critical perception of what is happening.
