OREANDA-NEWS. Any sanctions against Russia will be followed by a mirrored or asymmetrical response. On December 9, the press secretary of the President of the country Dmitry Peskov said, answering the question whether the Russian Federation has a draft of counter-restrictions in case new sanctions are introduced by the West.

“I leave it unanswered, I do not consider it correct. Any sanctions are responded to in a mirror or asymmetric manner, but in such a way as to protect their own interests, ”he told reporters.

Earlier in the day, CNN, citing sources in the US government, reported that the United States was unlikely to impose sanctions on Russian energy companies if a military conflict broke out between Moscow and Kiev. According to the channel's interlocutors, the administration has prepared a set of sanctions, which at the first stage will not apply to energy companies of the Russian Federation. However, they can be introduced as a last resort.

The day before, US President Joe Biden said that during an online summit he had warned Russian leader Vladimir Putin about the American administration's readiness to impose severe economic sanctions in the event of a "Russian invasion of Ukraine." According to the US leader, he understands that Russia will respond to these harsh restrictions.

At the same time, Putin's reaction to Biden's threat to impose sanctions became known. According to Peskov, the Russian leader noted that sanctions are not new, they have been adopted for a rather long time, but they do not give any positive effect either for the United States or for Russia. The President of the Russian Federation himself called an attempt to restrain the development of Russia by the statements of the United States that restrictions and sanctions are being introduced under the pretext of the security of the United States.
