OREANDA-NEWS Russia took the second place in the ranking of the world's strongest armies after the United States, according to the annual Global Firepower Index 2024 rating.

"For 2024, Russia ranks second out of 145 countries considered in the annual review," the publication says.

The PwrIndx index is used to compile the rating, which evaluates the number of military units, the financial situation, logistical capabilities and geography of the country.

The US Army took the first place, receiving a combat power index of 0.0699. Russia is in second place with a rating of 0.0702. China is in third place with a rating of 0.0706. The five included the armies of India and South Korea.

At the end of October last year, the American magazine U.S. News & World Report recognized the Russian army as the strongest in the world. The United States took the second place in the ranking of military power, and China took the third place. Israel is on the fourth line of the list. South Korea is on the fifth. Ukraine took the sixth place. Iran, the United Kingdom, Germany and Turkey also entered the top ten.

In turn, John Mearsheimer, a professor at the University of Chicago, noted that the Russian army has become even more powerful since the beginning of the special operation.
