OREANDA-NEWS Russia denounces the Council of Europe Convention on Criminal Liability for Corruption — the government of the country supported the draft of the relevant law, a source close to the Cabinet of Ministers told Interfax.

The law is going to explain that the decision is made because of Russia's withdrawal from the Group of States against Corruption, the powers were terminated by the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe.

The Anti-Corruption Convention was signed on behalf of Russia in Strasbourg in 1999.

In March, Russia was officially excluded from the Council of Europe after 26 years of participation in the work of the organization. Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev said that after leaving the Council, Russia will determine a list of European conventions that do not meet the interests of the country and denounce them.
