Russia is ready to assist Malaysia in the construction of high-capacity nuclear power plants

OREANDA-NEWS Russia is ready to offer Malaysia solutions for the construction of large-capacity nuclear power plants and small modular reactors, the press service of Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk said after his meeting with his Malaysian counterpart.
Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk met with Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Energy Transition and Water Resources of Malaysia Fadilla Yusuf on the sidelines of the 20th East Asian Summit in Malaysia, RIA Novosti correspondent reports.

Overchuk also praised Kuala Lumpur's constructive approach to promoting the Russia-ASEAN dialogue, stressing that deepening cooperation with the Association remains a constant priority for the development of Russian foreign economic relations.
The parties noted the significant potential for increasing and diversifying bilateral trade.
"In January-August 2025, the bilateral trade turnover increased by 32.1% compared to the same period in 2024 and amounted to $2.47 billion. The Russian side sees good opportunities to increase supplies of energy resources, pharmaceuticals, and industrial equipment, including medical equipment, to Malaysia," the Russian Deputy Prime Minister's press service said.
There is also a significant export potential for various types of agricultural products, primarily grain, as well as livestock products. Cooperation in the field of nuclear energy is a promising area.
Humanitarian cooperation also occupies an important place in bilateral relations. Cooperation agreements are being implemented between universities in Russia and Malaysia. The countries are interested in developing the tourism sector. Malaysia is included in the list of countries whose citizens receive a single electronic visa provided for business and tourist trips, participation in scientific, cultural and sporting events.
