OREANDA-NEWS   After the New Year holidays, the cost of computer equipment in Russia will soar by ten percent compared to the beginning of the fourth quarter of this year due to rising purchase prices. Izvestia writes about this with reference to several distributors and the manager of one of the computer manufacturers.

They cite the rise in the price of RAM in the global market due to services related to artificial intelligence as the main reason. According to estimates by The Commercial Times, chip prices have increased by more than 170 percent in 2025. For example, in September Samsung raised the cost of a number of memory chips by 60 percent at once.

Computers and laptops at the new prices have already been purchased by suppliers, and they will reach store shelves in about a month and a half. A sharp increase in the cost of smartphones from the budget price segment is also possible — by 2.5-5 thousand for devices that are currently sold in the price range of 7-15 thousand rubles.

Irina Babina, head of the Laptops department at diHouse, noted that even before the new price increase, sales of computer equipment in units are falling. Earlier, the media reported that sales of smartphones and laptops in January-September dropped by 20 and 15 percent in physical terms, and by 25 and 20 percent in monetary terms, respectively.

Earlier, experts warned that additional equipment for Russians will become more expensive due to the so-called technological fee, which the government introduces for electronics by analogy with the recycling fee for cars. The maximum amount of the fee will be five thousand rubles in advance.
