OREANDA-NEWS  Russia has shown a good pace in achieving import substitution of seeds. This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Patrushev. He was quoted 5-tv.ru .

He noted that the seed self-sufficiency plan was set at 75 percent for the first time only in 2020. Just three years ago, Russia barely reached 60 percent, but in the coming year it should approach 70 percent.

In this regard, Patrushev focused on the situation with sugar beet. In this segment, import substitution started almost from scratch. But by the end of 2025, Russian seeds of this crop will be able to provide about 20 percent of the market.

This summer, Russian farmers warned that a ban on the import of seeds from the Netherlands, which account for about 30 percent of all domestic imports, even through third countries, could lead to significant difficulties in the industry. Especially severe problems are possible in the categories of greenhouse crops and late-harvest vegetables. It turned out that it would not be possible to fully replace foreign products with Russian seeds, since the latter are much worse than foreign ones.
