OREANDA-NEWS Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, during a speech in the country's parliament, called the water supply situation a crisis, with shortages recorded in all provinces of the republic.
Iran is facing the most severe drought in the last 60 years, which has left many key water reservoirs in the country empty, and authorities in the capital of the Islamic Republic have been forced to resort to overnight water shutdowns.
"Water problems exist in all provinces of our country. Water supply in Iran is in crisis," Pezeshkian said during a broadcast on Iranian television.
The Iranian president previously said that this year only 3% of precipitation fell in the country compared to the figures recorded "in the old days." The rains and heavy rains expected in September arrived in Iran almost three months later - in mid-December.
However, as the head of the Center for Statistics and Information on Water Resources of Iran, Firuz Qasemzadeh, noted, despite the positive impact on the situation, they are unlikely to correct the water shortage, and the filling of reservoirs with water will continue to remain at a minimum level, the ISNA news agency reported in December.
