OREANDA-NEWS All eight Russian citizens detained earlier on Tuesday in Baku, who, according to the Azerbaijani side, are connected with the transit of drugs from Iran, as well as cybercrime, have been arrested for four months, the local APA news agency reports.
Earlier, Azerbaijani media reported on the arrest of seven out of eight Russian citizens.
"The Sabail court has arrested all eight Russians accused of drug transit from Iran, their online trafficking and cybercrimes. A preventive measure was imposed on them in the form of arrest for 4 months. The detainees were brought before the court separately, and the hearing ended," the statement said.
Earlier, the Azerbaijani news agency "Report" reported, citing a source in the republic's law enforcement agencies, that employees of the Azerbaijani Interior Ministry detained Russian citizens in Baku, allegedly suspected of drug transit from Iran and cybercrimes.
The publication appeared against the background of the unfriendly actions of the Azerbaijani security forces towards the Russian and Azerbaijani journalists of the Sputnik agency.
On Monday, the Azerbaijani Interior Ministry announced an "operation" at the Sputnik Azerbaijan office in Baku. The Sputnik agency in Moscow informed RIA Novosti about the lack of communication with the editorial office. Cars of the patrol service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Azerbaijan, as well as black minibuses with tinted windows, were parked outside the building. Later, Sputnik reported that security forces in Baku had detained two Russian journalists on absurd charges - Igor Kartavykh, head of the editorial board of Sputnik Azerbaijan, and Evgeny Belousov, editor-in-chief. According to the agency, according to local media reports, the employees have been absurdly accused of being "FSB agents."
On Monday, RIA Novosti also reported the detention of an employee of Ruptly, an editor who was in Azerbaijan on a private visit.
On Tuesday, the Rossiya Segodnya media group called on the Azerbaijani authorities to release their employees and immediately resolve the unacceptable situation.
