OREANDA-NEWS Four cases of infection with the new NB coronavirus gene variant.1.8.1 was detected in Russia. The situation is causing concern, but it is under constant control of Rospotrebnadzor, said the head of the supervisory authority Anna Popova, RIA Novosti writes.
"We must keep in mind the information appearing in various media in different countries about the emergence of a new coronavirus gene variant — NV. 1.8.1," she said.
According to Popova, it appeared for the first time and was described in January of this year in China, and then in various countries of Asia, India, the USA. To date, experts have identified it in the Russian Federation.
Popova noted that based on observations, this gene variant does not cause a more severe course of the disease, it flows in the same way as a regular coronavirus, she assured.
Earlier, the United States reported on the "true origin" of the coronavirus infection. So, the American authorities are confident that the coronavirus appeared as a result of a leak from a Chinese laboratory in Wuhan.
In early 2025, a new coronavirus capable of infecting humans was found in bats in China. Rospotrebnadzor assured that the risk of transmission of the HKU5 virus from animals to humans remains low.
