OREANDA-NEWS  President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree appointing Alexander Darchiev as Russia's ambassador to the United States.

"To appoint Alexander Nikitich Darchiev as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the United States of America and Permanent Observer of the Russian Federation to the Organization of American States in Washington, United States of America, concurrently," the document says, published on the official portal of legal information.

The American side handed over to the Russian side a note with an agrement for the appointment of Director of the North Atlantic Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry Darchiev as the new ambassador to Washington on February 27 at consultations in Istanbul, Smolenskaya Square reported.

In 2005-2010, Darchiev was an adviser-envoy of the Russian Embassy in the United States, from October 2014 to January 2021, he was the Russian Ambassador to Canada.

The previous ambassador to Washington, Anatoly Antonov, was relieved of his duties by presidential decree on October 10, 2024.
