Russia has become less invested in the American national debt

OREANDA-NEWS In February 2025, Russia reduced its investments in the US national debt to $36 million. This is reported by TASS with reference to the statement of the US Treasury.
Russia's investments in long—term U.S. government securities accounted for $30 million, while short-term securities accounted for six million. A month earlier, they were estimated at 38 million (of which 32 are long—term and six million are short—term), in December 2024 — 42 million (33 million are long—term and nine million are short—term).
Russia began to invest less in the American national debt and consistently reduced investments since the spring of 2018, at that time they amounted to 96 billion dollars.
In February 2025, Japan became the largest holder of American government securities with an indicator of 1.1 trillion dollars. China is in second place with 784 billion, and the United Kingdom is in third place with 750 billion dollars.
In 2024, Russia's public debt increased by 13.5 percent, or almost 3.5 trillion rubles. As of January 1, 2025, the national debt reached 14.5 percent of GDP. Separately, the domestic debt amounted to 23.74 trillion rubles, which is 89 percent of the approved upper limit of the state domestic debt.
