Russia surpassed the Soviet Union in the number of African students

OREANDA-NEWS Russia has already surpassed the Soviet Union in the number of students coming to study from African countries, Denis Degterev, an African scholar, told RIA Novosti.
The Chief Researcher of the Institute of Africa of the Russian Academy of Sciences is taking part in the Russian-African conference, which is being held in the capital of South Africa, Pretoria, by the Valdai International Discussion Club in partnership with the South African Institute of International Relations (SAIIA).
"The number of African students already exceeds Soviet figures… Thousands come on scholarships, and several times more come on a contract," said the agency interlocutor.
According to the figures presented at the conference, in 2024-2025, Russia allocated almost five thousand scholarships for African students to study at its universities.
