OREANDA-NEWS Russia will close the Polish Consulate General in the Kaliningrad region in response to Warsaw's decision to close the Russian Consulate General in Krakow, the Russian Foreign Ministry said. The Charge d'affaires of Poland in Russia has been notified about this.
"On July 11, the Charge d'affaires of Poland in Russia was summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry, who was handed a note notifying that, as a response to the withdrawal by the Polish authorities of consent to the functioning of the Russian Consulate General in Krakow from June 30, 2025, the Russian side is withdrawing consent to the functioning of the Polish Consulate General in Kaliningrad from August 29, 2025.", - the message says.
The decision to close the Consulate General was explained by the Foreign Ministry as "unjustified and hostile actions of the Polish side, expressed in the reduction of the Russian consular presence in the territory of the Republic of Poland under a far-fetched pretext."
"Russian diplomacy invariably proceeds from the fact that no unfriendly attack against our country will remain without proper reaction and consequences," Smolenskaya Square said.
The Consulate General of Poland in Kaliningrad was opened in 1992. After some time, Poland built a new Consulate General building.
