"For preventive purposes, more than 4 thousand people were evacuated from four residential districts falling into the flood zone. The aviation of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation has been involved in monitoring the situation from the air in Dagestan," the report says.
It is noted that an operational group led by Muslim Devrishbekov, head of the regional headquarters of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation, and a representative of Rostechnadzor flew to the emergency site. "The MI-8 helicopter flew to the Derbent district to assess the flood situation resulting from the incessant torrential rains," the ministry added.
Earlier on Sunday, the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation announced the beginning of the evacuation of the population from the Derbent district of Dagestan due to the threat of flooding as a result of overflow of the Gedzhukhskoye reservoir.
On March 28, heavy rains led to flooding of households, electrical substations and power supply restrictions in almost two dozen districts of Dagestan. The authorities of the republic have introduced an emergency regime in Makhachkala, Khasavyurt, Buinaksk, Dagestan Lights, Kaspiysk, as well as in Derbent, Karabudakhkentsky, Khasavyurt, Gumbetovsky, Babayurt, Novolaksky and Kaitagsky districts.
