OREANDA-NEWS  The Netherlands welcomes the efforts of US President Donald Trump to resolve the conflict in Ukraine, Prime Minister Dick Schof said in the context of the upcoming summit of the Russian Federation and the United States.

The Kremlin and the White House had previously announced that Russian President Vladimir Putin and Trump would meet in Alaska on August 15.

"A just and lasting peace remains our goal... We welcome President Trump's initiative in this direction," Schof wrote on the social network X* on Tuesday.

According to Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov, US special envoy Stephen Witkoff mentioned in the Kremlin during his visit to Russia the possibility of a trilateral meeting between Putin, Trump and Vladimir Zelensky, but the Russian side left him without comment, suggesting that they focus on preparing a bilateral summit. Putin noted on Thursday that his meeting with Zelensky is possible, but there must be conditions for such negotiations, which are still far from being created.
