PlayStation Vue adds NFL Network, RedZone and more local CBS stations
OREANDA-NEWS. July 26, 2016. Vue viewers who are football fans will soon begin seeing red. The NFL's popular RedZone network, that is.
Sony's live TV streaming service will add two new pro football-centric channels, NFL Network and NFL RedZone, to its slate of live TV channels in time for the 2016 NFL football season.
In addition to Thursday Night Football games, The NFL Network channel airs shows like NFL GameDay Morning and A Football Life, highlights and analysis of all things football and covers events like the NFL Draft in the off season. RedZone airs every touchdown and other highlights in real time every Sunday, cutting from stadium to stadium.
Neither channel is available on Vue rival Sling TV.
Vue has three channel packages ranging in price from \\$30 to \\$55 per month, depending on which city you live in. Some Vue channels are subject to restrictions, especially on mobile devices, for example limited DVR access or an inability to stream outside the home.
CNET reached out to Sony and the NFL to determine details about pricing and restrictions. Both have replied that more information will be available closer to launch. The 2016 NFL regular season begins September 8th.
Separately, Sony said CBS local broadcast stations are available as of July 19 in nine new US TV markets: Austin, Charlotte, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Grand Rapids, Harrisburg, Salt Lake City, San Diego and West Palm Beach.
Football fans in those markets, as well as in seven other US cities that already have CBS, can watch CBS' Sunday broadcasts of NFL games. Many Vue markets also offer Fox's live football broadcasts, as does rival Sling TV in some markets.
In CNET's review of Vue we liked it better than Sling due to its larger channel selection, cloud DVR and superior interface. Sony's service is available on PlayStation consoles, Amazon Fire TV and Roku, as well as Android and Apple mobile devices.
